Unbuilt - Expression of Interest
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The joining together of Indyk Architects, ASPECT Studios, Urbanite + Nest, Point of View Lighting, Jennifer Isaacs-Art curator, Elton Consulting and MGAC Accessibility to become FOREI., allowed this collective to enter the expressions of Interest Competition for Adelaide Contemporary Gallery.
Our entry encompassed the following ideas inspirations and possibilities:
A space to touch the senses of visitors from around the world.
A vibrant and alive public threshold inviting you to escape from the streets and terraces.
A new civic threshold to the Botanic Gardens. Raised sculpture terraces, showing art in silhouette against the sky and against the gardens beyond. Blurring the boundary between garden, park and the urban edge. Inspiration to let the imagination of the old and the young soar.
A sunken performance space linked to the gardens yet the heart of the gallery, full of festivals and fun. A theatre in the round. A quiet place to dwell and reflect. Contemplation amongst submerged roots and rising trunks. A perch high in the canopy, looking down and out to the view beyond. Raised sculpture terraces, showing art in silhouette against the sky and against the gardens beyond. Blurring the boundary between garden, park and the urban edge.
The Contemporary Galleries and the Galleries of Time will always be linked together, in two different possible worlds. The shaded spaces below ground and the dappled light in the canopy spaces above.
Visitors to Contemporary Gallery spaces will be invited to glimpse beyond the foreground, to an active and constantly changing relationship with the Gallery of Time spaces beyond, and then beyond this to the filtered garden light.
Dappled sunlight and shade. Water reflecting. An approach to a cascading oasis drawing from the hills, coastal and volcanic edges of South Eastern Australia.
