QT HOTEL - SYDNEY
Completed October 2012
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
‘QT’ an exclusive line of designer hotels in different unique locations in Australia, is another new hotel branding for Event, formerly AHL Pty Ltd.
The new QT Sydney on the corner of George and Market St. in Sydney Australia is a ‘unique’ hotel particular to Sydney and the context of the heritage grand ‘State Theatre’ building and Gowings building in which it is created. Indyk designed all the internal planning layout of the guestrooms.
They are designed for an artistic ‘quirky’ elite that love the ‘art’ of hotel staying; the quirkiness of a new experience; value high level design; and desire comfort and surprise. Indyk Architects worked with the remnant historical details to create a new modern language of design, with bespoke detailing at every turn.
Rooms planned within the old buildings have a diversity and uniqueness. Bathrooms are varied and exclusive, clad in stone with baths ranging from round baths to free standing slipper baths to japanese styled baths. All joinery such as bedheads, wardobes, desks, credenzas and mini bars were custom designed by Indyk Architects and manufactured in China from 3 different factories.
The icon feature in all rooms is the stainless steel framed glass cabinet, which glows red and orange within the bedroom setting, reflecting and sparkling with its crystal and faceted glass objects within. The cabinet is used as a glass divider between the bathroom and bedroom. Sliding mirror doors can open or close- down the bathroom experience from the bed itself. Indyk architects with Art Duo consultants coordinated artists Richard Blackwell and Morgan Shimeld to create five options to be distributed throughout the 200 bedrooms.
